The second Yantai Changdao "Blue Granary" Maritime Harvest Festival, along with the "High-quality Marine Protein" Forum and Deep-sea Traceability Activities, was recently held on Nanhuangcheng Island. Attendees experienced deep-sea salmon farming sites and discussed the sustainable development path of the marine industry.
More than 150 participants, including experts from research institutes, leaders of aquaculture import and export companies, and supply chain managers in the catering industry, boarded a cruise ship from Penglai Port. During the journey, they engaged in in-depth discussions on the development of marine protein resources and innovative technologies and savored the delicious taste of Changdao salmon.
Upon reaching Nanhuangcheng Marine Ranch, they witnessed in real-time the dynamics of fish schools through underwater cameras on the intelligent net cage platform and learned about the entire logistics chain, from fingerling breeding to full traceability.
"Seeing firsthand the journey of a fish from deep-sea net cages to supermarket shelves truly helps us understand the secrets behind the 'Blue Granary' industry upgrade," one attendee said.
Yantai Jinghai Ocean Fisheries Co Ltd, the salmon farming entity, has cultivated 500,000 salmon since 2021, with its production volume reaching 600 metric tons in 2024. This year, the company plans to expand its farming scale to 1 million salmon, with an expected output of 1,500 tons.
In addition to salmon, attendees had the opportunity to taste freshly caught blackfish, Japanese scallops, river scallops, and other sea delicacies, experiencing the richness of Changdao's waters.
